About Beta 3

“Just in case you guys and gals are wondering what is happening, we are actively working on the next Beta release of Transcode360. We’re actively coding/testing/banging our heads against the TV set to a produce quality product.”

Here’s a heads up on what to expect in our next release:

The aspect ratio issues have been resolved, we’ve greatly improved (if not resolved) AV sync and playback choppiness, and implemented subtitles. Further to this we’ve also taken steps to improve compatibility that will make for friendlier co-existance with other codecs.

We’ve added the ability for those with a little programming experience to create their own custom plugins to transcode content. We’ll be including C# samples utilising FFMPEG, MEncoder, VLC and Windows Media Encoder.

After a great deal of testing its looking like MEncoder is the best suited for our solution, but if you prefer one transcoder over the other you can always specify which by editing the Transcode 360 configuration file.

I realise that there are plenty of features up on ‘The Todo List‘ that haven’t been included and we will get round to them once we’re comfortable that we have a stable foundation on which to build these very-nice-to-have features; in the meantime you could always show your support for the project by donating a couple of dollars. The total project donations recieved to date are just shy of $100 versus 18,000+ downloads. As a thank you I’m adding contributors to the Sponsors group on our forums; currently this entitles you to priority support but in future this may extend to early access to builds.

Time permitting expect a new beta to follow very shortly!

Can’t believe you have not even had $100 in donations. Well I just sent another $10 to aid the cause. All those who have downloaded and used transcode should hang thier heads in shame. $10 is peanuts for the added functionality this program gives the 360. Keep up the good work guys and dig deep people help reward the hard work done by these people.

Thanks I appreciate the contribution! I couldn’t help but wonder that if every download equated $5-10 I could work on T360 full time. I know, its a pipe dream! But when you’re stuck working with databases all day you sometimes fantasize about the kind of work you could be doing! ;)

Clearly I don’t run my personal projects with the intent of making money otherise I’d be well disappointed - that said it always feels good when your time is rewarded with a little kick back to sustain your hobby, pay for hosting, etc.

Yeah thanks for building such an awesome program, I’m glad you have fixed it so we can play more codecs had quite a few files that wouldnt play in beta2. I will donate some money when I get paid in a day or two, but just a thought any chance of having a donator list? It might entice people to see their gamertag or something like that, either on this site or in the program about.

It works impresively well, I’ve put together a media PC out of mostly spare parts, and it runs quite well on a little P4 1.8, although the Xbox complains if more than one 360 is trying to access it at the same time ;)

I agree with jason, I cant believe you’ve had 18000 downloads and not even made a $100. Thats a disgrace, come on you leechers, a lot of time and effort went into making this awesome program and microsoft would probably charge you $30 for it if they released it. Get your fingers out and drop some dosh, u can all afford $5-$10. As for me, here’s my 20 bucks, in support of Runtime.

I just dropped $10 on this great program. I was using MCEncoder, and Transcode360 just takes the cake. I can’t wait for Beta 3!

Thanks very much for your generosity folks it’s very much appreciated! On Beta 3, we came across a few unexpected issues with the release candidate and have been ironing out the problems; fortunately there is light at the end of the tunnel. I hope to give you a more thorough update very soon.

$40 dollars on its way right now.

Which is pretty cheap for a product which fills such a critical gap in the 360’s video handling.

Are you guys allowing people to directly link to the downloads externally? If so then there may be some who don’t realise how little you’re getting in way of donations, a leechscript may be in order…
