The Return of AC3
Published by runtime 360 April 28th, 2006 in TranscodingLittle did I know that in developing DVD ISO and VIDEO_TS streaming I’d end up with a practical solution for handling 5.1 audio. So along with a number of other goodies, I’m pleased to report that the next build will once again feature AC3 support
Just as (if not more) important is a new ‘Easy’ installation option that no longer mandates that you install an NT service, this completely avoids all the nasty permissions issues that are typically involved with services and networking.
Finally after a little perseverance I managed to find and fix a nasty AV sync bug primarily affecting US-orginating content encoded at 23.97 fps.
All in all the next build is shaping up very nicely indeed!
Now onto some admin: I’m seriously considering reorganising the testers group and opening up internal builds to project sponsors who’re interested in gaining access to early builds, testing and generally living life on the bleeding edge!
I still need to work out whether or not it would be feasible to coordinate - anyway is this something that would interest you?

ahhh music to my ears!
Very nice work.
Generally if a project features CVS or alpha builds, then it’s those versions that I’ll be running. For people running obscure settings it might be useful for testing purposes, but the coordination of separate sponsors-only builds might be a bit of a hassle for you. 5.1 will certainly be welcomed though
I may have to start throwing some unusual AV codec combinations at it and see how it deals.
I’m getting a high-def projector next week, and I just made a 15 dollar donation to your project.
I would be interested in getting releases early and giving feedback. I’m mostly interested in stability (sometimes transcode locks up both my xbox and my pc o_0), ac3 support over spdif and if it’s in sync and in image quality (which i’ll be a good candidate to judge on on a 2 meter wide picture
)
So also would be nice if 720p xvid file’s would be recognised and transfered as 720p and not downscaled.
Yes, I’ll be interested on testing new versions. I’m focused on getting a better performance (my network and MCE computer are not really fast)and a better image quality. So, if you finally do it, count on me.
Yes, I’ll be interested on testing new versions. I am intested also in 720p source material being displayed on the 360 without downscaling.
As a new sponsor, I would also be very interested in interim builds, and helping with any co-ordination (I’m also based in the UK).
AC3 is a great step, but I don’t have a cinema system, so I will also help ensure that any new builds don’t effect us underdogs.
Great step fowards Runtime - we appreciate everything you are currently doing.
I’m too busy these days to be relied on as a tester.
I’m just glad that T360 has worked so well for me and I know it’s because of so many other users spending their time to help runtime360 with this project.
Thanks everyone! Especially you runtime360!
